How to Create a Team in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams is an application that helps individuals and organizations streamline their tasks and communicate efficiently. Whether you are a manager looking forward to organizing your team members on a project or a school admin who wants to create groups of students, building a Team helps you with all this and much more.

Microsoft Teams is basically a platform where people, tools, and content come together for different projects. You can make these teams private or public, depending on the individuals with whom you want to share the information.

Private teams can be accessed only by people who are invited to join. On the other hand, anyone within the organization can be a part of the public teams. A public team has a capacity of up to 10,000 members.

How to Create a Team in Microsoft Teams

You can create a new team for a specific project, such as launching a marketing campaign for a product. Also, you can create an ongoing project. Team members can access conversations, notes, and files across the team channels.

Who can create a Team in Microsoft Teams?

There are two user roles in Microsoft Teams, one is the owner, and another one is the member. When a user creates a new team, they are given the status of an owner. By changing the moderation settings, both owners and members can take up the moderator role.

Team owners can create new teams unless they are restricted from doing so. In The View Teams option, the owners can make other members owners too. Having many owners in the team is beneficial so that if any owner leaves the team, the other can manage it.

Users having a mailbox in Exchange Online have the permission to create Microsoft 365 groups so they can create Microsoft Teams. If you want to restrict people from creating new teams, you can give the group creation and management rights to a limited number of users. It will prevent other users from creating a team.
